Waits for the Oiler trolls in 3, 2, 1...

It would be nice to have (whomever) the head coach will be and any of his staff in place well in advance of the draft. I'm sure the coach would like a small say in his future lineup.

Really don't think Kreuger would be a bad choice. Didn't really realize he was still looking at a NHL gig though.

Babcock credited Krueger for his work on helping team Canada coaches deal with the bigger ice and come up with defensive schemes for it.

Can't quote, but to Leo

As for Kreuger. The only reason he was fired was because he asked for an co-coach like the one he played with Renney. Unfortunately for everyone Eakins came in and was a smooth talker.

Not that it means a lot, but the year he coached was our best year in recent history. It was only a half year, but the young kids sure excelled under him.

Am I the only who thinks Krueger was the best Oilers coach in recent years (no offense to Dallas Eakins)?

I don't know that Renney was bad either, but Krueger was probably the best.

I'm not huge on Krueger but he's the only coach who actually got the Oilers out of picking top 5 in the last 7 years. That has to count for something.

Carlyle is the more truculent option. Krueger is just too soft

Nah, he's ok

The team was nosediving after a strong start, but he's a special teams wizard. 5v5 numbers were pretty bad, But they've been fairly weak under every coach so take that with a grain

Please not Randy... he's a goof. I could see either Kruger or Ward working well for our young group.

Did someone say they wanted some sunshine?!?!?!

Maybe Krueger is the Dubnyk of NHL Coaches?! Bring em on!!!!

Seriously though I disagree with Todd's assessment of him not being an X's and O's guy. I have heard the opposite.

Krueger's oilers had pretty awful possession metrics, but the roster was somehow even worse than today if you can believe it. His PP was quality. Wouldn't be an awful choice

It's been reported that the Bruins want to add a D-man to give their backend some balance. Wideman a fit? What would it take to get him in Black and yellow again? Seth Griffin or Brandon Carlo might be a stretch. Maybe Jimmy Hayes with an addition on our side of some sort...

They would need to send a medium range contract back to balance out the cap but it seems pretty doable if we're retaining 25-50% of the cap hit.

The Oilers thread doesn't exist.

You can't really judge any head coach by Edmonton experience. No one has success there. And if I remember correctly, didn't the Oilers get worse after he left? ¯(°_o)/¯

Crazy. I guess the'nucks are still in the 'win now' mode. Not that McCann's ceiling is really high, but I think higher than what Gudbranson has shown since entering the league. Plus Benning gave up a 2nd in the deal
I wonder if that now ups their desire for PLD?
